As I predicted in the post preceding this one, Dragon Quest Builders has consumed the large majority of my time this past week. Despite my level of dedication, other Builders are already boasting completion of all the story chapters while I am over here still working on Chapter 2. (o。_。)o
The reason for this is that I had not realized initially that the worlds in which you build towns in were separated into completely different parts, which honestly upset me a bit. I had originally anticipated trudging across the lands and building multiple villages and kingdoms all within the same map and time space! I suppose it’s my own fault for my misunderstanding as I largely keep away from forums and news sites and had very little knowledge on the game play of DQ:B. I spent hours upon hours building that first town, so imagine my dismay when I stepped through the portal and was told I had to leave it all behind! When the scoreboard popped up and I was told I didn’t make the 20 day achievement, I admit I felt pretty bitter. (ಠ ∩ಠ)凸
After starting Chapter 2, I began to feel better pretty quickly. I started hacking away at the Earth and erecting my new establishment with vigor, the blocks of the past far behind me. I thought that perhaps I should look up an achievement guide to make sure I get the time goal, but I enjoy creating the towns so much that I forgot about it. My new village is even more elaborate than the last, even though I know I won’t be able to return to it when I go to the next! Oh well!
Overall, I absolutely adore this game. It is so charming and fun that I have to force myself to do normal things like eating and sleeping. I suppose that’s how it goes when you truly love playing a game. I do wish some things were different, like more focused strikes and more visibility within buildings. Combat isn’t the most polished either, but it’s not a dire enough issue to keep me from doing it. I shall continue my adventure with much enthusiasm and report back when I get a little further along! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
